The Ladder.

The ladder to me has an almost human presence. The ladder seems to be a stand-in for the body, and for labor. Stored horizontally, it holds “potential” for utility, but for now it rests. The orange of the ladder is the only contemporary, industrial color. Everything else could belong to any decade of the barn’s life. The ladder timestamps the image in a way.

It’s impossible to fully comprehend the clarity of this image in digital form. The file is 23,130 × 9,280 pixels — 214.5 megapixels, composited from 30–40 detail photographs, faithful to the actual structure. Best viewed in person.
